Do You Know Sew & Sew?

    Laura

1.  What do you like most about what you do at CS&S?
    - LEARNING! I’ve learned so much after working at CS&S. Both the employees and the customers are a wealth of knowledge. I really enjoy chatting with other quilters and sewists and finding out tips or methods that are different from what I’ve previously been taught.
2.  What’s your earliest memory of sewing?
   - Being a small child and having to stand still as my mom held up pattern pieces to my body to see if the size was going to fit besides she cut her fabric. It seemed like it always took forever!
3.  What was your biggest sewing disaster?
   - All of my unfinished projects. I still have a simple apron in the works as a wedding gift for a friend. She’s about to celebrate her 6th anniversary.
4.  What are your three favorite fabric designers/pattern makers in the shop and why?
  -  Elizabeth Hartman because her animal quilt patterns are so precious.  Anything from Blend. Every time we get new fabric it is just the cutest! Sarah Watts with Ruby Star Society! Looking forward to the new fabric that’s coming!
5.  Favorite meal in New Orleans?
   - Crawfish beignet and Boudreaux pizza from Katie’s, chicken and sausage gumbo from Mr. B’s, or crawfish cheesecake at Palace Cafe. I love all food
6.  If someone is visiting New Orleans, what are your must-dos?
   - Window shopping up and down magazine street
Eating (I love any excuse to go to good New Orleans restaurant)
Getting a frozen Irish coffee from Erin Rose,
Hanging out in City Park on a nice day and swamp tours. There is really nothing else quite like them

1. What do you like most about what you do at CS&S?
- I love helping people discover how amazing it feels to create! One of my favorite things to do at the shop is helping new sewers learn the basics, especially when I get to see them complete their first project. Nothing compares to seeing how joyful people are when they sew something for the first time!
 2. What’s your earliest memory of sewing?
- I remember learning how to hand sew little pockets one day in preschool. I think my teacher's grandmother actually came in to teach us. I was hooked, and I immediately went home and began designing my own stuffed teddy bears with sharpies and scrap fabric.
3. What was your biggest sewing disaster?
- When I was about 14, I had the chance to go to a Mardi Gras ball. For the first time ever I needed a full-length gown, and I thought I was up to making that. I was not... 30 minutes before the event started, I had to admit defeat and acknowledge that I couldn't wear half an unhemmed dress to a ball. My mom took me out for Italian food instead, and I still enjoyed my night!
 4. What are your three favorite fabric designers/pattern makers in the shop and why?
- Alexander Henry is my favorite fabric designer. The colors are so vibrant, and I love a good novelty print! My favorite pattern makers are Deer & Doe and Closet Case Patterns. I love Deer & Doe's modern take on classic, sweet styles, and Closet Case Patterns makes well-drafted patterns for staple garments, like pajamas and shirt dresses.
 5. Favorite meal in New Orleans?
- Crawfish Monica, or an oyster poboy!
 6. If someone is visiting New Orleans, what are your must-dos?
- Firstly, walking around the French Quarter is a great way to experience the atmosphere of the city and stumble on great experiences. My favorite spot there is Faulkner House Books in Pirate's Alley. Secondly, eat as much as you can, at as many different places as you can! Lastly, explore City Park, especially the art museum and sculpture garden.
 7. What is the strangest talent you have?
- I am very good at impersonating Elmo of Sesame Street.
 8. What are three things left on your bucket list?
- Attend a play performed at the Globe Theater, visit Jane Austen's house, and see the Irish countryside!
